Music video proposal
BD-
For this project we will be be creating a hybrid music video for the song: Thank God I'm a Country boy by John Denver. This music video is in the Country genre of music, with the purpose of this video being to promote the image of John Denver and Country music, and also entertain audiences. The target audience of this music video is all all genders, but specifically white / Hispanic Americans ages 18-54 and in the C2 as they make up the majority of the listenership. With John Denver being from America, we will be taking inspiration from American culture to help promote his identity. Moreover, as this song is an older one, we will be lowering the resolution on the camera, this is so the music video is more time appropriate. To boost this idea we will add a filter on top of the footage to give the idea of an older camera.
In terms of mine-en-scene, the actors in our music video will be young males dressed in western inspired clothing in order to match the origins of this song and remain faithful to this artist as he was from America and is widely known for being one of the best country singers it have ever lived. The costumes would be comprised of jeans, brown leather shoes, white t shirts with opened short sleeved shirts over, denim jackets and bandanas around necks, all of these are a form of iconography to symbolise Western America.
Moreover, in terms of scenery and decor, the music video will be filmed outside in a rural location displaying farmer fields and possibly lakes and mountains. These features will always be ported in the background and for establishing shots to give the audience a sense of what the are would look like if they were there. In terms of staging, for the majority of the music video the actors will be in the mid-ground centre frame in order to draw attention to them as they will be lip syncing to the lyrics, then if anything is in the foreground it will be traversal moving from foreground to the background or will move from one side of the frame to the other.
For the setting, we will be using fields and woodlands as our basic locations for our shots however we will be shooting these areas at different moments in time to film different things and convey different meanings, for example: if we filmed woodlands during a day, it could connote wonder and excitement however if we filmed it at night it would connote fear and loneliness. However as our song is very uplifting, it wouldn't make sense to connote those feelings, so instead we will be adding a campfire to connote this feeling of warmth and security that most feel when they sit around them.
The use of colour will be in order to connote emotions and symbolise distinct areas to do with country music, the green is usually a symbol of peace and is a direct link to the green of the country, this is because the country has a calming atmosphere which is a common trend with John Denver as an artist and his songs such as Annie's song and Take Me Home. Moreover, the yellows of the sun and some of the fields will connote the positive mood of this song as it is very unique to John Denver as it is more upbeat and jolly than most of his calmer songs, also as this is a song about farming, the use of this colour along with orange will connote Autumn and harvest which is an important and busy time for farmers, and this business could be shown through the tempo of this song as it is consistently fast paced giving a sense of rush and motivation.

In terms of props, we will be adding things that are widely known to be associated with farming and the country so we will be taking shots of tractors and farming tools as they are images that allow audiences to make links to agriculture. Moreover as a lot of farmers must work from early hours, we will add a small part of British culture by adding a cup of tea for the young farmer to use as this is usually given to people during their manual labour hours, so it can be used instead of things like sunrises to signify the start. Moreover, the use of beer bottles would signify maturity as in America you must be 21 to legally drink, which shows an element of growth in this song and reflects how the song is about memories. We plan to use as many props as possible to relate it to the American and British audience by using a mix of props from each culture. For example we want to show off the British land scape but at the same time we must ensure we use props that signify some American culture whether it being American food and drink or clothing.

The target audience for the music video of the country music genre will be aged 44+. This is because this type of music isn't modern and was made around the 44+ aged era. The job category grade if the target audience would be grade C1 and C2. This means low skilled workers that have enough time to listen to music. Also the target audience may be inspired by the music video. Also, social grades C1 and C2 cover most of the population so the video will have a larger opportunity to be marketed towards a mass audience in oppose to a niche audience. The target audience is targeted towards a male audience, this is because the genre of country music is dominated by a male audience. Country music is most popular in America specifically the south states such as Alabama and Arkansas. Stereotypically popular to American Cultural groups. This is very popular cultural group so the video will be attract a large range of people as the target audience.
We plan to advertise the product on social media for the young growing audience that are interested in country music. This is because this type of target audience will have access to social media. This is because social media is free which means less costs can be put in to distribution in order to advertise on social media. You can also add hashtags to make the target audience more likely to see the product. Also it is easily accessible for the target audience to use. This is because of their demographic and psychographics profile which shows that their generation uses social media. Another advertisement method could be to use posters and billboards in public. This will be to target the audience with a larger age demographic. This is because the older age demographic are least likely to use social media and to see the music video advertised on social media. Also the older age demographic of audience could be able to see the music video on TV adverts. This is because they are more likely to see a TV advert than a social media post.

During filming we will setup camera shots for close ups of our faces as that will clearly showcase our emotions. Also, we will have a pan shot of us around the fire to show us together while all being jolly, this will showcase our enjoyment of the song and how it is meant to make the audience feel. This highlights the joyfulness of the song and that it is a song that is supposed to bring happiness to the audience As for lighting, we will have many outdoor shots so we will use the natural lighting from the campfire and maybe the sky depending of the type of night. We may also need to use lighting equipment if it looks too dark in the camera and you can't see us. Natural lighting would be preferred so it looks better shot. All the editing we will do is going to be done on Adobe premier pro with the first step being to chronologically order the footage. We will have to render the footage so it is in the best quality possible for the final product and will look professional. We will have to add the song 'Thank God I'm a country boy' into premiere pro and sync the song to our lip syncing so it is in time with our actions. We will use continuity editing so that there are multiple shots to show our camera skills but they all represent the same meaning which is us cheerful around the campfire listening to John Denver. Continuity editing establishes the location we are at but we will use non-continuity editing when we change locations. This will focus the audiences attention and keep the music video exciting and intriguing.
We plan to film in multiple locations but mainly in the woods next to a campfire while clapping which will makes us look happy as that creates a very true country feel. We would be around the campfire for an hour as that will give us enough time to film and add extra shots if we want. We also plan to film a sunset so we will have to there for 19:20 and record it until it sets. This will create a country feel as it is a wonderful sight created by nature similar to many country themes. The equipment we will use will of course be cameras to film us in our filming locations. We may also need to use our own lighting if the natural lighting is too dark and we are hard to see through the camera. In terms of props we will use a guitar as that is a instrument used in the 'Thank God I'm a country boy'.
JB- The distrubution for our songs will be through social medias like spotify and youtube as this is the growing method for audeinces to view a visual product, with the younger generation growing massively in this genre it is importat for us to target medias popular with this audience, that is why we have chosen spotify and youtube as statistically these are the most used platforms for this most popular platforms for this age group. However this song is still dominated by the older generation so its important we breach the tv market as the older audience typically struggle to understand the new softwares.
Its extremely important that when we are finishing the music video in premier pro we export it and render it to ensure high quality standard with the video.
