Planning documentation
Script breakdown
Breaking the script into components using a breakdown sheet.
Do it by department,
A step towards scheduling,
The script breakdown can be done ON the schedule, or you can do a 'paper' version where you just break a script down by department separately.
Scheduling
Directly generated from the script,
Everything is generated by the schedule from now on,
This is the most direct translation of the script, practically speaking,
Includes information about the length of a scene, cast involved, the time it will take to shoot, the location, EXT vs INT, Day vs Night, scene numbers and more.
Budgeting
Based on the schedule,
Don't do a budget without doing a schedule first- why?
Broken down into sections by department, like:
Cast, crew, camera, sound, locations, accommodation, catering, art dept, Equipment etc,
The budget will be created by a producer or line producer,
This document will govern all the monies spent and help to shape the film in terms of what is possible and what is not,
The best budgets and budget-makers are those who can see how the money will translate.
Call sheets
These are the documents that govern a shooting day,
The line producer or production manager will create them,
The 1st and 2nd AD will perfect them.
Recces

Practical and Creative fusion
